Certain injection treatments, such as viscosupplementation and steroid injections, may be administered at your GP’s office.
Viscosupplementation
Viscosupplementation is a procedure that involves injecting the knee with a fluid called hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid can help to lubricate the joint, and thus may slow cartilage deterioration. Hyaluronic acid also works as an anti-inflammatory, which means it may further ease your knee pain.1
Steroid Injections2
Corticosteroid is a synthetic form of cortisone, a hormone naturally produced by the body. When injected in high doses into the knee, it can have an anti-inflammatory effect and may provide pain relief.
